When I am going down a hill in my Ranger if I don't give it the gas the transmission just lets go like it went out of gear and kinda "Freewheels". Why doesn't low gear hold it back?

Because of the Polaris clutch design, at an idle, the primary clutch opens and the belt is no longer engaged, therefore causing the secondary clutch to "free wheel". You need to keep the RPM's up a little bit to keep your primary clutch engaged. I will try and locate a video of this I have.
