New here.

Have owned a 2016 900 XP EPS for about 3 weeeks. I've wanted a ranger for a long time and was quite familiar with the units because I hunt with many guys who run them.

First time I took mine into a flooded field, it bogged down, would rev really high and not spin the wheels. Check engine light comes on. On gravel road/levees it ran fine.

Last Saturday, I was stuck in a flooded field (water beneath floor boards) and was pulled out by a 420 Honda Rancher. I was screaming mad and ready to sell it and go back to my honda atv when I realized there was water draining out of the belt case.

The dealer never put my drain plug into the belt case! Luckily, a polaris dealer about 45 min away had one. I've had no problems since I replaced the drain plug.

Here's my question. I'm taking it in for 25 hr oil change next week. What do I need to have them check in regards to that belt case? Since the thing was loaded with water 3-4 times, should I have them replace the belts? Anything else?

How does it drive? Is it jerky? Most of the time when the belt gets wet it doesn't do any damage to it. Mine has been filled with water multiple times. Even just from washing it, the belt case gets water in it and gets stupid. And it doesn't take much water at all for the belt to start slipping. I just drain it out and away I go.

I would pull the belt cover off, remove the belt, and clean the sheaves on the primary and secondary, and clean the belt. Make sure there's no grime or grit inside.

I haven't noticed it slipping at all since the drain plug was put in. Then again, I was so used to it being a useless pile of metal and rubber prior to that, I'm not sure I'd notice. :mad:

Regardless, I think it is probably a good idea to pop that case apart and have a look. Maybe my belt brake-in period was just more extreme than most....

Ya, just pop the cover off and clean it out. When the belt is dry, it will turn the tires on pavement. Don't let the Honda guys convince u that it is a junk system. And don't over tighten the plug, it's just plastic and won't take much to strip it. Finger tight will do it.

A little tip. Before removing your belt case cover remove the grease fitting from your lower forward a-arm.
