Using a pump to empty the crankcase isn't advised as the dirty oil is not removed completely and will degrade the engine slowly.

It'll work well enough considering the short oil change intervals anyway...

MCC smart cars use similar as they have no sump bung at all... You just suck the oil out of the dipstick tube.

I use the same type of evacuation pump on marine diesel motors where there is no drain plug. Works just fine - but as pointed out won't be as thorough as a drained from the bottom change.
