If the winch doesn't come with a mount, then you'll want to get one. When I ordered my Venom winch, I bought the package that came with a mount. I was glad, because the mount (which was made by someone else) had better winch installation instructions than the winch.

 

Look into venom winches. They have all sorts of accessories including mounts, synthetic line... all sorts of stuff. They are cheap too for $270 with a great warranty.

 

Thanks guys, do you recommend the Venom over the Champion? Which venom do I get? I do not do any mud riding. Only plowing, hauling firewood, hunting and ice fishing.

 

I bought a 4500 lb Venom with the mounting stuff and synthetic cable (also includes steel cable), for my '06 Ranger. The same deal for your 2011 500 would be this one:

They don't currently have a non-synthetic package for your Ranger listed on eBay, but if you contact the seller they will list one for you to buy. They come with fewer extras and only have steel cable, for $40 less.

So far I really like my synthetic cable.

I also got the 4500 lb Venom, to use on my 2011 800XP. I plan on using it for my plow this winter. So far I've pulled myself out of a mudhole, and pulled some old tree trunks out. No complaints here.

I've heard that the winches/power-dump/accessories in general can be tough on the battery if you use them often, so I plan on buying a second battery before winter.

If I have any heavy pulling to do with mine, I will definitely keep the Ranger running while I do it. Sure don't want to kill the battery.
