How comfortable is the ranger XP 1000 in trails

Never owning a SxS before, I'm currently looking at the ranger XP 1000 and the general XP 1000.

Although I understand the general will definitely give me a better trail ride experience, I might not be able to afford it. The ranger XP 1000 is just that much cheaper. So I'm wondering about the ranger XP 1000 and how comfortable it would be to drive long hours in the trails.

I sat in a 2022 model at the dealership, seats looks better than older models, but I still feel like I'm sitting in a big golf cart. I've also noticed the position of the gas and brake pedal, I felt uncomfortable using them, felt like I would have to lift my entire foot to press and depress any of them (because of the angle of my feet and sitting position)

I'd like to hear from some people about there experience riding the ranger XP 1000 in trails for extended duration. Especially about

-how bumby it is (feeling the roads and rocks)
-how comfortable the seats are and your position in it
-how comfortable the gas/brake pedal are
-driving in the snow (...getting stuck?)
-max speed
-etc

Thanks

I sorta forgot to mention, but I do want to do a bit of work too...that's why I was looking at both the general and the ranger. I'd have to guess, I'd be doing 30% work / 70% trails with the machine

Some of the work things I'd be doing is hauling rocks/gravel/firewood around...pulling a small UTV trailer around the property. And also dragging logs when I need to.

But it's mostly going to be riding trails over the long run.

Thanks for the feedback. Hoping to get more people share their thoughts and experiences
It's too much play, not enough work :)

The Ranger rides pretty smooth on trails, but that is at lower speeds and smaller bumps.
You will need to address the pedal problem, I have rubber spacers on mine.
And the riding position, seats etc won't get any more comfortable as your miles pile up.
For mostly trail use I highly recommend the General XP.
You will like everything better.

It truly is a personal thing as far as riding position.

Have a cottage in northern Ontario on the Quebec border and have no problem putting 100 miles a day on the 2 tracks and old logging roads. So very capable for those types of trails. You would think your in a Cadillac compared to taking a truck down the same trails.

I have the Ranger 1000 Premium and love the ride.
I think some of it depends on the trails in your area. Everyone has aspirations of riding like you see on Youtube, 70mph down a trail and taking 30' jumps. I have a 2020 1K premium and it does more than what I am comfortable doing. The General is going to give you a more of a sportscar feeling with the seats. I like the upright feeling of the Ranger, and its easier to get in and out of for me. I am 6'4 without any boots on. The Ranger will give you a better ride than a Jeep. They pretty much will go all the same places a General or Rzr will go. If you get a newer one with the 29" tires, your pretty well set if you like keeping it stock. The pedals on the Ranger is good for me, so I really can't add anything there. You don't have long travel suspension, so big jumps are not going to be good. You will be able to keep up with just about anyone you would ride with. Do you have a place near you that rents them? If so, rent one for the day and try it out.

I had a 2018 general crew that I liked, it was more comfortable than the ranger( I know that the new seats are more comfortable in the 22’s). I wanted to be able to sit six is why I switched and the bigger bed. All in all I like the ranger but for really long rides the general was more comfortable, smoother riding and definitely more power. For my needs I wouldn’t go back.

I was in the same boat as the OP. Strongly debated on a general xp or ranger XP. When they released the new pricing it sealed the deal for me.

I went and ordered a Ranger Trail boss. Yes it will see trails but primarily it will be used for work.

another things is it seems like the ranger accessory market are better for my needs.

A set of Aftermarket shocks go a long way as far as ride quality.
If it's primarily for play and secondary for work, I'd choose general or RZR and trailer. The RGR is great for a work horse, but play is definitely secondary.

Go set in both machines? Getting in and out of the ranger is much easier. There's a reason they don't put bucket seats in a golf cart. And a set of 814 or elka shocks will make it ride like a caddy.

We have a Ranger NS Ultimate and other siblings have Generals. Both are great vehicles. With the generals they are continually putting on or taking off their side windows depending on the weather as they are a pain but they do provide a lot of protection when the weather is adverse. We turn on the heat, or AC when it’s hot, not available on the General, They have both added heated seats. It is fun to get out at lunchtime with everyone dressed up like Eskimos wearing a lite coat with a big smile on your face.

Both go everywhere we want to go. The Generals will run slightly faster but I get 55 with our Ranger. Fast enough for me. The Ranger is much easier to get in and out of. At the end of the day your tailbone is tired it is pretty much is in every machine. Agree with the shock comments here. We love our Ranger and my wife especially likes it as she sits up and can see over the hood when she’s driving.
I favor the Ranger because it has more payload room. It’s nice to be able to load a cooler and the dog and still have room for camping gear.

I have Ranger ns 1000 crew. When I got it I couldn’t believe the soft ride. I am handicapped so the Ranger is much easier to get in for me. I get very stiff and sore cause of my ms but the seats are damn good for me considering my issues. Once I put the 2 inch lift on it rides even softer and bottoms out rarely now. I have 2 labs and my wife all enjoy a cruise on the multitude of terrains we have here in northern Mn. The razors are a blast, as I have friends with them. For me the big Ranger is the bomb. Plus it plows snow remarkably well.

I have a 2021 XP1000 that I've used for work and chores around our place this last year. It's been a great machine. 3 of us couples went out trail riding in the woods of northern Minnesota one weekend this late fall with 6-8 inches of snow on the ground. We put 100 miles or so on the machines that weekend, mostly on ORV trails too narrow for regular vehicles. We were all driving Rangers. One of us has an XP1000, the other two had XP900's. We had no trouble in the snow with traction. Any deeper, though and we would have wished we had our snowmobiles instead. The trails are rocky and bumpy in lots of places, but very comfortable. One of the XP900's has a stiff gas pedal, the other machines were fine. (I ride in "work mode" for throttle response in my XP1000). I've never max-ed out my XP1000 for speed in the year I've had it, but I've been up to 50+mph. Seat position and comfort has been fine for me (5'-9") especially with the heater in fall/winter. I come from having had flat axle 4-wheelers for the last 25yrs, so I'm in hog heaven with the independent rear suspension. The rear bed capacity is awesome, and would be a plus over the General, I believe.

Hope that gives you some feedback that's useful to you...good luck!

We have 7400 miles our 2018 XP 1000. So we like the ride. The speed is not an issue. We have RZRs that we ride with and they have not left us in the dust yet. We do have some Generals in the group as well. I have driven a General and RZR to compare to our Ranger. I can state that our purchase will be a general. The Rangers get stuck at the same rate as the rest of the machines. Which is not much. That depends on the driver.
