My 800 ranger is making a knocking/ticking noise. I checked compression which was 150psi each side, checked the pressure relief valve which was free and checked the pushrods which were not bent. Its not clutch noise since a new primary was just installed.

Did noise start just after new primary was installed? If so, I would suspect that is issue. Way it jerking in would suspect something out of balance.

Is there a notch burnt in your belt?? I would try swapping belts to see if it goes away or start it with the belt off to see if it goes away..

Sounds like a big end is unhappy... But check valve clearances, they aren't adjustable on these, as they use hydraulic lifters, but I've had them fail and the engine gets noisy, but unfortunately that video makes it sound like something more sinister.

Put a dial indicator on the rockers and rotate the engine. All should be about the same. If one is noticeably less then you have a bad cam. Not totally uncommon in the first gen twin.
