Dear All,
Advice required please as to how to remove the 47t mid output helical gear, (Polaris part No. 3234138), from the reverse shaft. Several teeth are broken on the gear, the result of a ham fisted driver selecting reverse whilst still in forward motion in an abortive attempt to get out of a peat hag.
It would appear to be an interference fit, rather than keyed or splined, on the shaft and it's resisting all efforts with the three legged puller.
The gear in question is item 57 on page 8 / 17 of the Polaris Ranger Service Manual.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Please note that I'm a newcomer to the club with my main calling servicing Ducati motorcycles however now also maintaining 3 x Polaris vehicles and 2 x Argocat 8x8 Frontiers for a local sporting Estate.

Thanks for the reply, will apply the oxy - acetylene torch tomorrow with the three legged puller wound up real tight.
Pity Polaris didn't get Ducati to design and build their gearboxes.

A hydraulic press did the trick, toothless gear removed although it did require near 8 ton for the full length of the shaft.
