This ranger I've worked on has come back the starter is staying engaged. You fire it up, and it still runs power through to starter. He has tons of wiring issues but thinks they can all be bypassed. Obviously something is shorting causing this issue. I'ts driving me mental... I bought a brand new solenoid for it and wired a push button through it for him as he wanted because it wouldn't crank off the key (ignition switch works on other RZR)... How do I get this to stop... New wiring harness is obviously the easiest bet because there's something going on. But the guy is too cheap to spend real money, I'm about to tell him to kick rocks unless he wants to fix it properly...

It sounds like something is feeding voltage to the starter solenoid after the engine starts. If you find the reason it won't start with the ignition switch you will probably find the reason the starter stays engaged.

It's exactly what's happening. Unfortunately, I got my hands on a 2010 500 ranger manual, but it's different and I can't find a schematic showing key switch and where each wires go so I can test them on either end for shorts. I've ruled out a key switch issue by swapping with a good one. It has to be wiring.. The brake switch system had been messed with, jumped etc in multiple places. I fixed that so now I have tail and brake lights which means brake switches are operable. Is there anywhere I can get a proper service manual for this? It is the "midsize" 500
