2015 Polaris Ranger 570 Mid Size Crew

I am currently rebuilding the top end. An automotive mechanic I know and respect told me new rings will not seat properly using synthetic oil. He recommends breaking in with conventional oil.

Thoughts?

He is correct in theory. The rings need to be able to wear so that they seat and mesh into the cylinder wall. In theory synthetic is too slick and doesn't allow the rings to properly seat. Now in practice, I couldn't say as I haven't gotten any personal experience in that regard. But these engines aren't really the same as a typical engine, they are designed to run at much higher rpms. If I were in your shoes I would likely use the standard polaris engine oil for break in (even though it's synthetic) as that's what a new machine would be doing from the factory.

Any other things recommended to do while the top end is apart?
Hope and pray when you have it all done and running the bottom end holds out. Meaning rod knock / bearings go bad If everything works out for you change the oil when it starts to get brownish / dirty, oil is cheap compared to rebuilding the engine I did the same thing to mine as your doing then the crankshaft bearing let loose after i did the top end
