I purchased an 800 Ranger efi in November. It has been back at the shop three times for electrical harness problems and is currnetly in again for nine days so farand counting. Each time it is a different harness problem. The dealer has patched or repaired the the broken wire/wires each time. Anyone else having wiring harness problems?

Wiring harness problems

Purchased 2011 EPS in February 2012 have had nothing but problems approximately 125 miles on Ranger and dealer replaced faulty wiring harness now there is a short in the system somewhere and dealer can't fix it. No mechanics just part replacers, if the computer doesn't tell what part to replace they can't repair anything. Should have bought a Mule.

800efi crew wiring harness

I have been having issues with the throttle response and shifting from forward to reverse. Just brought it to the dealer and it came back with two bad wiring harnesses. $800 to put two new harnesses in. They said it was from power washing it, which has never been done. Judging from the thread I think Polaris needs to get on the ball and fix this issue. Do you think it is a problem when Polaris finds the need to put zip ties on a wiring harness that already has a latching system built in? Seems kind of suspicious to me. I am going to check into the recall that was mentioned earlier.

2011 same problems as all above

Bummer,, Have had almost all of the above listed problems. So googled to see if there were anyothers out there...

Disapointing, In shop right now (3rd time) never has been right. All wiring issues/harness issues.

Going to put up an argument with the dealer that problems were pre-existing prior to warranty running out. Then start class action suit against polaris. These things aren't cheap.............

2011 Ranger 800XP Harness Problems

I have had problems with mine within a month after I purchased it, (October 2010) but had no way to take it back to the dealer - 300 miles away.

First indication of a problem was that the engine began running a little rough and the "Check Engine" light came on. I called the dealer and gave him the code numbers and the mechanic, Juan, informed me that the problem was that the Low Idle Oxygen/Fuel sensor was malfunctioning. I jiggled the harness plug at the sensor and engine smoothed and the light went out.

Soon, it became apparent that this was to be a continuing problem. It has become worse. It sometimes causes the engine to idle fast so that it has to be turned off to shift forward/reverse. Other times, it idles so slowly that the engine dies. Usually, the problem is an occasional "bucking" while driving at normal speeds. Also, it has loss of power and will not accelerate when climbing. It feels as though the throttle position sensor is malfunctioning. It is not. Raising the seat and jiggling the harness near the sensor straightens it out - for awhile. However, the light no longer goes out...it's on all the time.

I am not sure if the break is in the harness/sensor plug or in the harness about 6-8" from the plug. I suspect that it is a broken wire(s) in the harness and I have been tempted to cut the harness and take out about a foot of wire and then re-splice.

If anyone knows if they are doing a recall on this harness, please let me know.

i have a 2011 800 ranger and have been having lots of problems. I had a fan blade fall off so the fan quit and it over heated it took me hours to get home, it had 50 miles on it. Then the next week with 60 miles on it a fuel line wore through and shot gas everywhere. now with 500 miles it will quit running after about 20 miles and you have to let it sit and then go 200 yards and wait again.

Same thing

I've got the same thing going on. First time they said intermittent crankshaft position fault, next time throttle position (would idle so high I couldn't get it out of gear without shutting engine off), now it's back with check engine code 636 which Polaris says doesn't even exist, (I have a picture of that code). All three times these problems are intermittent. Now it's out of warranty. I believe a mear 6 month warranty tells me how confident a company is with their product! Polaris needs to come to the plate and let dealers know there are serious issues going on with the new 800efi. Already got a $100 in gas returning this machine to dealer.

2011 XP EPS - Junk wiring

Traded in a 2009 Ranger 700 on a 2011 Ranger 800 EPS. What a MISTAKE.

Did OK for 3 months then the seat pins both broke and when you hit the brakes, me rear end and the seat slid forward and I plowed into the steering wheel, Wife plowed into the dashboard. Polaris replaced the seat under warranty.

At 4 days after warranty expiration, seat pins broke again and I come to find out they make a metal pin repair kit for the seats to fix the el-cheapo design seat. So, forked out $ 38 with shipping and fixed the poor designed seat myself.

11 days AW (after warranty), the engine started to miss right after running in mud or water a check engine code showed up. Called the Polaris dealer, gave code and was told the wiring harness is in suspect. Took it in (148 miles round trip) and they found frayed wiring form, quoting the Dealer, an assembly problem at the Factory where they don't secure the wires and they rub. $ 325.50 repair to fix quality issues.

28 days AW, engine developed a severe miss at RPM between idle and 3000 RPM and check engine light. Called in code and was told, short in wiring harness, bring in. Found a frayed wire in the harness shorting to ground, $ 385.25 and another 148 miles to fix quality issues.

44 days AW, engine quit like the key had been turned off then started normally. Picked up a surge in the engine during acceleration and check engine light. Called it in, told a short to ground in a sensor. This time, it took him all day to find the short, it was in the SAME wiring harness as before. $ 442 and another 148 miles to fix this junk machine.

I love the machine, power, ride handling but the quality of the electrical system is poor. The seats are built as cheap as possible.

It is a shame that the overall best UTV on the market has quality issues that have cost me money.

They used to use nothing but metal pins for the seats. My 2006 and my buddy's 2001 both have metal pins from the factory.

The wiring issues should have been fixed under recall, paid for by the company. It is a known issue with new Rangers.

Sounds like they got really cheap in some stupid areas. Very sad to see what is happening to this company.

They used to make strong, tough, quality machines. Nowadays it seems like they mainly just look pretty, and sometimes work.

Knock on wood........ I have not had any problems yet ! I have had it in water up to the box several times ;D, pressure washed it many times........no issues yet. I also have not recieved any recal notices. Do you know where I can find recal notices for my perticular unit ?
