Different weights in the clutch will change the rpm of your engine. I doubt if you have adjustable weights in you clutch, but you could purchase some more than likely. I have adjustable weights in my clutch, and I’m able to add magnets to the clutch weight (which makes the weights heavier) to lowers the rpm, or remove weights which will make my rpm higher.

Our Ranger is used on the back roads here in Wyoming, and on the highway. For my style of driving I want my rpm to be low fit the high speed driving. Usually I’m running down the road between 45 and 60 mph!
I just installed the same setup except with their secondary. They have mine setup with the black short primary spring and the gold secondary. Also the weights are 3 4 4 3. Im definitely gonna have to play around with the weights hoping I can get it right without having to replace the springs. What is your current weight setup? I have a 2020 xp 1000 3 seat with 29x9x15 maxxis carnivores and it only topped out at 65 at almost 8k rpm. Also have their tune. It also came with a new dynojet belt.

Yours should do better that that! Ours is a 21 NorthStar Ultimate crew running BFG KM3’s 30X10R15. Current weight setup is 7,7,3,3! When I first got their tune and clutch kit mine would go up to around 8000 rpm. I didn’t like that at all. I’m using their pink spring in my old clutch. On the new one I just installed I’m going to add one more weight to each of the large holes to see how much that drops my rpm the next time I open it up to clean it. Hopefully that should lower my rpm around 400. If it does, I’ll be more than happy. (Each time I’ve added weights from my initial setup, which was 6,6,2,3 I believe, my rpm was lowered around 250-350 rpm) I normally cruse between 40-60mph.

You know you can add more weights to it without taking everything apart. It’s actually not that hard. Just remove the clutch cover, and spring. Has 6 bolts holding it on. Once you have it off, push the outer clutch half in. Rotate the clutch so you can get to the weight and using a pair of needle nose pliers add weights to the holes. I’ve done it before. It’s kinda tricky at first, but with patients you can do it. Just make sure you have the magnet turned the correct direction!

The bad part is if you drop the magnet your going to have to get it out before you can do anything else.

Yes I was doing the same speed with my stock clutch. I had the basic elite shift weights and tune and used the longer black spring with it. And would only turn 7000 max on good days in performance mode. But it would creep to 63-65. Idk if I should utilize the black spring out my old clutch or get that pink like you. I know for sure I’m gonna add weights first just to see (trial run) prolly try your 7 7 3 3 I’m wondering if more weight will counterbalance the strong spring and if I ever need the low end I’ll pop some
Weights out? Seems like it can’t be that easy it will prolly mess something up lol so
Many combinations of weights and springs 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I will definitely try that tomorrow my clutch housing is still off so I just gotta take the cover off. You did it with it still on the bike that way?

Yes! Be careful taking the 6 bolts out. You have to hold the outer cover pressing it inward to relieve the spring pressure so when you remove the bolts you don’t break the cover. Be sure to watch one of the videos. You will need a torque wrench. Mine torqued to 100 inch pounds. (NOT FOOT POUNDS) Refer to the Gilomen paperwork that came with the clutch. And, call me if you have questions! I’ll pm you my cell number.

You can use a stick or something to help compress the spring like I did awhile back.

I would use the pink spring! We basically have the same size tires. If your going to take it apart to add weights to the first two large holes is easy, but getting the others without removing the weight itself would be kinda touch. On my 21, the three weight bolts torque to 20 inch pounds. May want to check your paperwork that’s cane with the clutch. Also be sure to put the bolts back in the direction of rotation

If you decide to completely remove the weight, you can use a small Allen wrench to push the magnets out of the clutch weight. I thought it was easier to just remove all the magnets, then put them together and put them back in.

Today I decided to rotate all my tires! Since I had the wheels off I figured I might as well add a few more magnets to the clutch weights, and blow all the dust and crap out of both clutches. I have just under 900 miles in my new Gilomen clutch. So far it’s done great. It was a lot dirtier than I thought it would be!

I also added one more magnetic to each large hole on the clutch weights. With that being said, my new setup is 8,8,3,3. Next time I pull it apart I will add a few more magnets to the small holes to see if that drops my rpm a little more.

I was surprised to find inside the clutch cover that the piece that deverts the air had come loose, and one piece in the corner that holds it on was broken. I had some plastic epoxy, so I put it on each one and within an hour it was hard so I reinstalled everything. In a few weeks I believe I’ll pull the clutch cover again just to inspect it and make sure it’s still tight. If it isn’t, I may pull the piece that’s loose completely off. I wonder how much hotter it would run if it’s removed?

Must have been "warm" or maybe that new wood stove of yours in the barn is working out. Nice write up. If I ever need a new clutch I'll go with your recommendation. I just don't drive that fast or far, only ~ 5 miles of trail a day at roughly 5 to 15 MPH. Very rarely I'll go 45 MPH on a 16 mile round trip to Tractor Supply or the Sonic. I have the Gilomen fuel saver clutch spring and weights with tune. So far so good for my conditions on that setup. Best thing I like is lower RPM at just about any speed and still plenty of umph to crawl up a steep hill. Your on a roll, now get that aluminum roof installed !

it was in the low 30’s and I did fire up the wood stove in the barn. Within an hour or two from starting the stove it was nice and toasty inside. Today I’m going to rotate the tires on the truck.

The aluminum roof looks like it’s going to be a pain in the butt. I never realized that I have to drill a hole in the roll bar to route all the wires for the doors! Watched a video on that the other day. Still may try it this winter. We’ll see!
